Buzzerelio privacy policy

Buzzerelio is a buzzer for quiz nights made by Tekartik: a host creates a game, players join it with a code or a QR code, everyone buzzes from their phone, the host keeps the scores. This page says what the app stores, where, and why. Buzzerelio has no advertising and no analytics.

What you need to use it

No account. When you host or join a game, the app signs you in anonymously with Firebase Authentication: a random identifier, with no email address, no name and no password attached. It is kept on your device so that you find your game again; nothing lets Tekartik know who is behind it.

What is stored, and where

  • Games: the date the game was created, who controls it (the random identifier of the host), the current round and, for an hour after it was generated, its join code. They are stored in Cloud Firestore (Google Cloud, European Union region).
  • Players: for each game, the name and initials you typed (or a generated name such as Player 3), a color, your number in the game and your score. The name is what the host and the other players see.
  • Buzzes: each time you press the buzzer, the moment you pressed it, so that the host sees who buzzed first and how fast. The host can clear them, and a new round clears them all.
  • Join codes: a six digit code points at a game for an hour, so that people can join it. Anyone with the code, or with the QR code link such as buzzerelio.web.app/j/123456, can join the game while the code is valid.
  • On your device: your player identifier, the player name you last typed, the game you last hosted or joined and the language you chose.

Who can see what

The players of a game see each other's names, initials, colors, scores and buzzes, during the game and on its final results. The host sees the same and can change the scores. Nobody outside the game can see it: a game is not listed anywhere, and its code stops working an hour after it was generated.

How long it is kept

A join code is deleted two days after it was generated. A game is closed a week after it was created, or when the host stops it; its results stay available to its players for fifteen more days, then the game, its players and its buzzes are deleted. The app asks for nothing else and keeps nothing else.

Deleting your data

Leaving a game, or the host deleting you from it, deletes your player from the game. Everything else goes away by itself within the delays above. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data in your browser, deletes what it keeps on your device, your anonymous identifier included. For anything else, contact Tekartik through tekartik.com.

Changes

This policy may change as the app evolves; the date above says when. The current version is always the one published with the app.
